This was one of the early family holiday mini-sessions I did in 2013. The RZ family is absolutely one of my favorite families in San Rafael so I knew it was going to be great. But what I didn’t know before we started was just how beautiful and consistent the afternoon Marin light can be in November and December. This was the beginning of what is starting to be a bit of a love affair I have with the Marin light. I think I said this before but up until these series of mini sessions, I wasn’t loving photographing in Marin. I just wasn’t connecting with the area. But the time I spent with the RZ family and others really opened my eyes and mind to what is possible is this area.
The RZ family is super active. Between hiking, running and biking they have explored all of the hills around San Rafael. This summer, they even showed some beautiful spots around Phoenix Lake in Fairfax which was great fun. We meet up at the Ridgewood Trail Head in San Rafael. I had scouted out a few locations and took them straight there. The afternoon light is beautiful but it does move so we couldn’t go too slow. I took a few family shots under a grand Eucalyptus tree but what caught my attention right away is just how crazy cute little H is. The photos are great but they just show a glimmer of how amazing she is. So much fun photographing her alone and then with her parents. I think a couple of shots of the family hugging really show the love that they all three have for each other. I love it what that comes through in family photographs.
Thanks RZ Family for all that you do in our community and for giving me the opportunity to photograph you in such a pretty place.
