Kim Family Photographs in Golden Gate Park

One thing I love about children – especially the little ones – is how dedicated they are to the things they love.  Once a child gets attached to something, there is just no denying it.  Little Kira’s love of choice this weekend was the sand at the Koret Playground in Golden Gate Park.  We started off playing the in the sand and no matter were we went, she quickly started asking for the sand.  Very, very cute.  We almost got her on the carousel.   She made it in the door and was a step away from the horses, but then she has seconds thoughts.  Kira rather stay in daddy’s arms while mom went round and round.   I have to say that is pretty common for a 2 year old.  I’m sure next time she’ll ride the ponies.

Thanks Helen and Seung – you have a beautiful daughter and looks like you are doing great.  And please tell your friends thanks for holding the shade screen.

Glaeser Family Photographs in Golden Gate Park

I have met a lot of cute, rambunctious, fun-loving children in the past year of photographing families.  But I have never met anyone as smart and eloquent as little Ilaria.  I literally sat dumbfounded as this 2 and a half year old told me out the different flowers in AIDS Memorial Garden where we were, how helicopters help her dad (he is a fire fighter) and all sorts of other things.  And when she wasn’t speaking in full and complete sentences, she explored and ran throughout the garden and brought back little “treasures” for us in the form of rocks, sticks and flowers.   It was such a delight to see (even if I did have to run quite a bit to get the shots).

Teresa and Nate – thanks so much for this opportunity.  I had such a great time and when Ilaria needs a photographer when she wins the Nobel Prize, please give me a call.

They are married!!! Hester, Daniel and Family after the Big Day.

This week I did two sessions with Hester and Daniel and Daniel’s mom and Dad, who were in town from Hong Kong for Daniel and Hester’s wedding. We were challenged a bit by the weather The first session was cut short due to the thick fogged that rolled in while we were at the Conservancy of Flowers in Golden Gate Park and when we went to Crissy Field a few days later, the wind was gusting at 50mph. Fortunately the entire family was wonderful and understanding. We explored around these San Francisco landmarks and had a great time. The session were capped off with a wonderful Golden Gate Bridge Sunset.

Congrats again Hester and Daniel on the wedding and thank for giving me the opportunity to work with you and your family.  Complete Gallery is here.

The Garcia’s in Golden Gate Park

This Sunday, I had the joy of meeting little Sofia and her parents Ana and Joel.  We met at the Children’s Playground in Golden Gate Park.  That is pretty much a wonderland for children complete with swings, cement slides and a metty-go-round.  Sofia of course loved everything and pointed her her way from place to place.  The only thing she didn’t quite understand is why the adults kept wanting to stop for pictures.  A waste of time in her mind I imagine.  Fortunately I scrambled around enough to get a few shots of the family and their fabulous blue eyes.

Thanks Garcia’s – I had a blast and hope you enjoy the photographs.  The complete gallery is here.

Hester and Daniel Engagement in Golden Gate Park

I met Hester and Daniel on Tuesday for their engagement session.  Turns out their Wedding is on Saturday (whoo hoo!!) and they wanted a few more engagement style photographs to show at the reception.  We met at the plaza between the De Young and the Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate park.  Beautiful afternoon, great location and a wonderful couple make for a fabulous session.  Daniel and Hester are just nice people.  Clearing very into each other and appropriately nervous given their wedding is in a couple days. We laughed a lot, explored around the plaza and got some nice shots.

Hester and Daniel – it was wonderful to meet you and I wish you the very best on your big day.

Recent reviews…

“Highly recommend Joey Chandler! He took some amazing shots of my sons at Golden Gate Park. The pictures came out beautifully and really captured the spirits of my two boys. He made them so at ease that they co-operated fully- a nearly impossible task with a 3 year old and a 1 year old. The next time we went to GGP my 3… year old kept asking for “the picture man” and was very dissapointed that he would not be joining us. I would definitely work with joey again‎”

Weekly Workshop 2 – Exposure in bright light

With the days getting longer, I thought it prudent to practice photographing in bright sunlight. I met Erin and her two fabulous sons Logan and Miles at the Golden Gate Park Playground in San Francisco. It was a beautiful, bright afternoon so it was perfect. I shot in manual with my 85 1.8. And to reduce the “I’ll take care of that with photoshop” thoughts, I shots jpgs instead of RAW. I worked on reading the photographs via the histogram and changing the settings with out moving the camera from my eye. All in all it was a really great shoot – Logan and Miles were perfect models and played in the grass and the trees and I think we got some nice shots.

One cool thing was seeing Miles’s face get lit up by the reflection off of Erin’s shirt. You can see it in the photograph with her laying down and him standing up. His face is ever so slightly light up by the reflection. I never realized that would happen. Might be useful next time I photograph a baby or a toddler.

Thanks Rudsenke Family. I had a great time and learned a ton.

July 4th in San Francisco

Perfect day and a great party organized by the super couple of Kristen and Jeff Slye.  The Pan Handle in Golden Gate Park was just going off with islands of bbqs and parties from beginning to end.  We of course where child centric so nothing got too out of control.  Loads of cute little ones.  Again – hard to think about what we did before children.

Thanks to everyone for the good times.

Also testing out the D300.  Solid piece of machinery for sure.  But I think I have to agree that the D700 has a better light meter.  Of course is that light meter worth the extra price tag?  Hard to say.

Going away picnic for Rebecca, Ari and Jonah

Made it back from the AIDS Life Cycle just in time to attend Rebecca, Ari and Jonah’s going away party.  Didn’t really intend to take pictures (the mind and body were mucho tired-o) but the kids were cute so I snapped a few.  The playground in Golden Gate Park (19th and MLK) was nice.  Will have to plan a few portrait sessions there in the future.
