Family Photographs with Molly and JB

Last week I was invited to photograph Molly and JB out at their Noe Valley Home.  The little ones are growing and their mom wanted photographs at this rambunctious age.  JB is a fun loving and eloquent 3 year old.  He showed me all around the house and helped me get Molly’s attention when needed.  Little Molly has about the biggest smile I’ve ever seen and is just on the verge of walking.  She does about everything she can to keep up with her oder brother and I’m pretty sure she will be running in no time.  The light in their home was beautiful and the kids did nothing but play and smile so the photos came out great.  After that was finished we went up to Walter P Hass park which has one of the most amazing views of San Francisco anywhere.  The kids loved being up their but it was a tad windy so our session there was cut a bit short.  Fortunately the kids were so cute and so much fun to photograph that we got more then enough great shots.

Thanks JB and Molly.  Have a great summer and I can wait to see you this fall.

Muni Station & Playground – perfect place for family photos

I got an email the other day that sounded perfect.  Not word for word, but the gist was “we have a crazy active two year old that loves the playground and trains.  We want family photographs.  Can you help us?”  ”For sure” I said and we set up a family portrait session at their San Francisco home.  And when I met Sara, Steve and little Rex at their San Francisco home I was ready to run but I had no idea how cute Rex was.  I walked in just as he was putting on his shoes and the doorway was just lit up by his big blue eyes and beautiful smile.  I grabbed my camera immediately and even before I said hello, I took a few shots that turned out to be some of the best child photographs that I have ever taken.  Probably could have left after 5 minutes but I figured that wouldn’t have been nice.  Rex was all fired up and lead us directly to the playground .   I chased him around the swings, slides and see-saws and we got some really nice photographs of him and the family in action.  Then we piled into the car and drove over to Rex’s home away from home – the West Portal Muni Station.  So much fun seeing him point out the buses and muni trains.  Nothing like the excitement of a two year old when he sees a train go by.

Thanks Sara, Steve and Rex.  I had a great time.  Good luck keeping up with the little one.  I’m sure he is only going to get faster and faster.

Family Portrait – San Francisco – Weber Family

For the longest time, I have said that photography is absolutely one of the best presents to give someone for their birthday, Christmas or the appropriate father or mother’s Day.  Not only do you have a wonderful few hours together as family, but you then have something that will literally last a lifetime.  So I got super excited when I heard this family session was a birthday gift for dad.  The Weber’s have spent the last year in San Francisco and are gearing up for a move back to Vancouver in a month or so.  We chose to do the session in Golden Gate Park and picked two great locations – the AIDS Memorial Grove and the Carousel at the Children’s Playground.  The children were awesome – so full and energy with great big smiles.  Loved seeing the little one work so hard to keep up with his big sister.  And since this was a birthday gift for dad, I focused on getting a few shots of him and the kids.  The shots of them kissing him are just precious ad I hope will bring smiles for many years to come.

Thanks Weber Family and good luck in your move.

San Francisco Family Portrait – Sewell Family

This was an absolutely beautiful portrait session with a wonderful San Francisco family.  Best part was that it was along a path in the Presidio that I had never seen eventhough I have driven by it literally thousands of time.  I met the Sewell Family just inside the Presidio Gate with the intention of photographing them along Lover’s Lane.  We talked a bit and they asked me if I had seen “Wood Line” – one of the environment structures done by Andy Goldsworthy in the Presidio.  I had heard of it but had never seen it.  Woodline is a log snake meanders along a path nestled in the tall Eucalyptus and is a perfect place  place for children to play.  Plus the way the light falls through the tall trees gives the place a magical feeling.  It would make an ideal place for anyone needing to get away from the hustle and bustle of San Francisco or something a little more romantic like a walk with a special person or maybe a place to get engaged.  I’ve seen lots of amazing places in San Francisco while doing family photographs  but I have to say that this was one of the most special.  It’s just a great place and definitely worth a visit.

The Sewell Family are great with three beautiful and rambunctious children.  After a few family photographs, they started asking “Can we run?  Can we play?”  The amazing trees, the great San Francisco light, and the Sewell’s wonderful energy made for a great family session.

The Beautiful Wasim Family

I met the Wasim family last year when our children started pre-school together.  Little Ayza is just about the cutest little girl you will ever meet.  She has an adorable bubbly smile and beautiful eyes.  I was super excited when they asked me to photograph her and her new twin baby sisters.   We met at their home in downtown San Francisco and explored their house and courtyard.  Ayza was full of energy so we spent a good amount of time watching her run, play and dance.  And when she wasn’t running around, she was playing big sister which was a lot of fun to see.

Thanks Wasim Family for inviting me into your home and I’m really glad that our families are getting to know each other.  And special thanks to Kathleen Louvegny for assisting me on this session.

Palace of Fine Arts at Sunrise

The Palace of Fine Arts is a frequent stop for San Francisco Engagement Photography tour.  With amazing towers, beautiful lake and golden colors, the palace is an absolutely gorgeous place for photographs.  This morning I went out for a sunrise session there.  My almost 4 year old, Lucius, has been asking to join me for a sunrise photo session, so I pulled him out of bed and headed out.  Getting a sleepy boy dressed took some time so we were too late for my intended stop of the Golden Gate Bridge.  Driving through the Presidio, I saw the golden towers of the Palace shining in the early morning light and I decided to go there.  The Palace has opened recently after a multi-year, many million dollar renovation and it looks amazing.  Highly recommend checking it out if you haven’t done so already.   I love the early morning colors and I was doubly please by combining them with the energy of a little boy (who woke up once we started playing chase around the pillars).   I think this would make a great place for family photography and engagement photographs.  Would require getting up early of course but I think it would be worth it.

Contact me if you are willing able to make a sunrise shoot happen.

Secret Presido Path – prefect for San Francisco family photography

New Years Weekend, Visiting San Francisco from New Mexico, a week of gorgeous weather leading up to it – we had all the makings of an amazing family portrait session. We had scheduled this session a few months ago and were planning to use classic San Francisco Spots like the Marina Green, Chestnut Street and Crissy Field. Josh and Jenny had met in San Francisco and wanted a few city photographs with their gorgeous son Lincoln. We were all set but the weather just didn’t work and no amount of “rain, rain, go-away, come back another day” worked to bring out the sunshine. We only had a day, so we got creative and started looking at different options. Fort Point – a standard rainy spot – was closed with the New Year’s Holiday so that didn’t work.

But then I remembered a beautiful path in the Presidio that was covered and would make for great pictures. I always pictured this area for an engagement session or a bride in a wedding dress walking through the trees, but it worked amazing well for a family with a energetic 3 year old. The canopy made for a beautiful back drop and the green was amazing under the grey skies. We walked back and forth and I photographed them playing and exploring. I love seeing families in these natural moments – best way to capture a slew of precious moments.

Thanks Jen, Josh and Lincoln. Hope you had a wonderful San Francisco Trip and hope to see you again soon.

Boggess Family Portraits in the Presidio

So this was a good example of how good things come to those who wait. Meg and I had been trying to schedule a date since February. Inclement weather, illness and accidents kept getting in the way. We even ran into each other at a friend’s party before we cold set up a time. But we just kept scheduling and rescheduling and I’m glad we did because the session was a blast. Their daughter Adel was great – full of energy and a joy to photograph. We explored the area around their Presidio home and Adele showed me how she plays on the logs with her mom and dad. All in all we had a great time and I think that shows in these family photographs.

Thanks Meg, Chris and Adele – really enjoyed meeting you and I really hope our next meeting doesn’t take so long to set up.

Marsh Family Portraits in the Presidio

I met Tamara, Phil an their little boy Maddox at their Presidio home for a family portrait session. With another cloudy San Francisco afternoon, the adults were all a little bummed and worried about the outcome. Fortunately, babies don’t let the little things like fog or sunshine get in their way of having a good time. Maddox smiled the entire time and set the perfect mood for family photographs.  Love seeing a happy baby that is content chewing on toys and clapping along with mom and dad.

Thanks Tamara and Phil for inviting me into your home and best wishes.

Photographs of the Wonderful Woolway Family

Last Month I had the joy of photographing the Woolway Family – Anne, Mark, Audrey and baby Henry.  And when you look through these photos, you’ll probably have the same question as I did when we first met in the Marina district home – “I see mom, Dad and Henry – now where is his big sister Audrey?”  Turns out Audrey is their little doggy and she is very much a member of the family.  Audrey is super cute and just great with Henry.  Seeing them all together, you have no doubt that Audrey was the original child and loved by all.  We got a few wonderful shots of Henry in the house (I love ones with him on the red airplane and in his pen of toys.  And since the Woolway’s had only recently moved back to San Francisco, we went out to the Golden Gate bridge to get a few classic San Francisco Photographs.

Thanks Anne and Mark  – welcome to back San Francisco and congrats with your beautiful baby.  Hugs and Kisses to Audrey.
