Portrait Session with Vanessa Gade – Jewelery Designer

Can’t help but feel a little pressure when a creative sort asks for a portrait session.  Vanessa Gade is a designer of ultra smooth and modern jewelery and needed a few headshots for her website.   Of course I was a bit nervous given how talented she is.  I met at her work space in the Haight, got to know her a bit and started taking pictures.  Vanessa is super nice and it was great to see her fabricate a few of her pieces.   I photographed her working, in her building and walking around the neighborhood.  As always San Francisco didn’t disappoint – we found great light, architecture and even a very cool red couch.   San Francisco is definitely hard to beat.

Thanks for a great session Vanessa and hope you enjoy the photos.

Grateful for Jeny’s Gratitude Party

My neighbor Jeny Smith not only is a rock star real estate agent with Hill and Company but also throws one heck of a party.  For her annual Gratitude party she booked Fritz’s in the mission for several hundred of her clients, business partners and friends.  In her words she “wants to create a community of people that support each other being successful in business and in life”.  So she invited all the people that have contributed to her success in the past 7 years and asked each of us what we were grateful for.  To make sure that we would leave the children at home,  she provided killer eats and drinks.  And if that wasn’t enough, she arranged for an acupuncturist to help relieve stress.  Of course, I”m not entirely sure needles and drinks are a good combination.  But everyone was all smiles so it must have worked.

Clearly Jeny is a contribution to our community and a very savvy business woman.

Thanks for the great time Jeny.  Here are a few photos.  Full gallery here (password required).

Trip to Northstar

Put the photo business on hold for a day last week and went skiing at Northstar with my Aunt Kelly and my cousins – Kaitlyn and TJ.  Leaving San Francisco at 4 am made for a long day but it was worth it.  We went up as part of a school trip.  Kaitlyn and TJ took lessons in the morning and then we all skied together in the afternoon.  They did great considering they have only skied/boarded a few times.

On a side note – snow photography is tough.  Have to juggle the angles, the light and the colors to get a good photo.  I may have to plan a few more trips this winter so I can practice.  I’m sure that will go over with Sue.

Indah’s Portrait Session

One benefit of my groupon.com promotion is that I now have a much broader range of clients asking me for photographs.  Just this week, I did a corporate head shot session, a dog portrait session and a shoot with middle school aged kids for a community center in the Presidio.  Challenging in the utmost as I’m stretched beyond my normal children and family photography business.

So the moment I met Indah in her San Francisco home (which she just bought – congrats!!), I realized that I had to step up my game in whole new way.  Here was a stunningly attractive, professional, super nice young woman, asking me to photograph her.  Definitely a stretch from my work with baby bottles and runny noses.

So I took a deep breath, looked for the best light and started the session.  Fortunately, she was exceedingly generous with this fashion-shoot  rookie, the house made had interesting lines and the cloudy light worked.

Thanks Indah and I hope you like the photos.  A few samples below and the complete gallery here (password required).
