Caroline’s birthday and my one year anniversary

Wow, its been a year since Caroline’s last birthday.  She turned three and have a great party at the Fr Mason Art Center.  And while today was very important to her and her fabulous family  (Amy, Andrew and baby sister CeCe) for all the obvious reasons, it also has special meaning to me.   Caroline’s  party last year at Crissy Field was the first event I ever photographed as the official photographer.   I can absolutely remember calling Amy and being so nervous to ask if I could photograph the party.   I couldn’t believe she said yes and then sent out an email that said “our friend and professional photograper, Joey Chandler will be taking photos at the party”.    It’s definitely been quite a year.

Seeing Caroline’s friends and realizing that I have photos of almost everyone there was a treat. These families are now very much part of my life (I see their photos on my screen saver at least a few times a week) and its nice to know that a few of the photos I took are now part of their lives.

So thank you Caroline and Kvaal family.  Not only for being great in your own right but for also taking a chance on me.

Happy Birthday Caroline.  Thanks for inviting us – we had a great time.

Here are a few shots I took today – gotta love cupcakes and chocolate frosting:

And he’s off!!!! Family portraits with Charlie, Cara and Scott

When Cara told me that Charlie loved to run from the Ferry Building to the Ball Park, I thought she was exaggerating a bit like all parents do (myself included).  All children run and play right?  Boy was I wrong.

Charlie runs and I mean he runs everywhere.  In the Ferry Building, down the piers, along the Embarcadaro, and up and over cement blocks – he ran and ran and ran.  Literally he was a streak of arms, legs and a great big smile.

It was awesome to see and his energy made for a great family portrait session.  I definitely have to give props to Cara and Scott – they have such a great attitude and just kept up with him where every he went.  And they definitely know how to be flexible.  When we lost the sun at the Ferry Building, they suggested going up to their home in Potrero Hill which turned out fabulous.  If you don’t know, Potrero Hill has amazing views of San Francisco and great afternoon light.

Of course, that gave us more time to photograph Charlie running.

Thanks Cara and Scott and good luck keeping up with Charlie.  If I were you, I might consider stock in a running shoe company.  I think you might need a few pairs in the years to come.

A little video from after the shoot.  We had to get close because the wind picked up.

Father’s Day 2009

Today could not have been better – gorgeous weather, playing at Julius Kahn in the morning, and picnicking at Baker Beach in the evening.  Had a great time with Lucius and Sue all day long.  Also nice to get a few Dad Day shout outs from the moms at the playground.  Yes being a mom is harder but it’s nice to hear a little acknowledgment from time to time.

And too top it all off, my d700 test continued.  Very, Very nice piece of machinery.  Definitely heavy and large, but the ability to capture amazing candid shots makes up for lugging the thing around.  Sue even let out a couple “oooo – that is nice’s” when looking at the shots she took of me.

I took a few shots of children at the playground (with parent’s permission of course).  Turns out Sue and Mary (mother of the Danny -  little boy with a black and white below) knew each other from Day One.  The world definitely gets smaller once you enter the SF Baby Club.

Baby Model Turned Cleaner

In a sign that the economic down turn knows no boundaries, ex-baby model Lucius King Chandler, who once graced the pages of oldnavy.com and Hannah Anderson, now turns to house cleaning to pay the bills.  Those close to him, says he spends time mumbling “Daddy go to work, Mommy go to work, and Shu Shu go to work.”  And while you may think he would be self conscious of his new status, apparently he has quite the talent for the custodial arts.  Client and Mother, Susan King reports “he polished the woodwork, cleaned the mirrors, washed the windows and it only cost me two cookies and a clean diaper.”  Times are tough indeed.

We wish him well.

Shelley and Olive at Rossi

Took Lucius for a bike ride and we ran into Shelley and Olive at Rossi Playground.  Olive is a great kid with beautiful eyes and loves to run, run, run.  And boy – she looks just like her dad. I got a few shots of her but they really don’t do her justice.  Maybe next time.  Downloads and more photos here
